Recently I had the pleasure of visiting the wonderful kids at the newly opened Discovery at Play Early Learning Centre in Shoalwater. My thanks to the director, Candice Morrison, and her team.

I join with the Prime Minister and other members in offering my condolences to the family and friends of the 15 innocent people who were shot to death at Bondi Beach on 14 December 2025 because they were Jewish.

It is with deep sadness that I record in parliament the passing of Dr Erica Smyth, AC. Erica was a great Western Australian who leaves an indelible mark on the resources sector of Australia.

Local councils play a vital role in supporting local communities across Australia. I want to congratulate the newly elected mayor of the City of Rockingham, Lorna Buchan.

 I rise to acknowledge Emeritus Professor Alan Robson AO, CitWA, who passed away in Perth last week. It is difficult to underestimate the influence Alan Robson had on agriculture, on science, on UWA and, indeed, on all of Western Australia.

It remains a great privilege today—as it was just over nine years ago, when I was first elected to be here in the Australian parliament—to be re-elected as the member for Brand in this 48th Parliament.

Today I would like to congratulate organisations in my electorate of Brand for receiving funding from this government under our Stronger Communities Program.

I join with the Prime Minister and other members, including the member for Wannon, with his fine words, in offering condolences to the family and friends of the late Holy Father Pope Francis, the bishop of Rome, and to Catholics right around the world.
